Hunting Shop Infrared Heating on the Ceiling

Our reference in Csorna: the 4-metre-high, glass-fronted Hanyi hunting shop is heated by heating film mounted on the ceiling. The layer structure, planning with 400 W/m² heating film, concealment without a suspended ceiling, the owner's experience – and the shop can still be visited.

Hunting Shop Infrared Heating on the Ceiling

In the Hanyi hunting shop in Csorna, heating film mounted on the ceiling heats the shop, which is 4 metres high and glazed along its entire street front, and which previously could not really be heated with any heating. Radiant heat warms the customers and the surfaces, not the air rising under the ceiling. The shop can still be visited, and the heating can be tried in operation.

Infrared heating is now chosen not only for homes but for more and more shops and businesses. This installation of ours from 2020 shows well why.

The site: a tall, glazed, poorly insulated shop

The ceiling height of the shop is 4 metres, the street front is glass all along, and its insulation is not the most favourable. Over the years the owner had tried many heating solutions with varying experience; earlier they heated with wood.

Infrared heating can work effectively in exactly such rooms. With systems that heat the air, warm air rises, so the lower part of the shop, where the customers walk, stays cool. Radiant heat primarily warms those in the shop, so this phenomenon does not occur.

Installation steps

The receiving surface for the heating film was prepared by the owner: wooden battens were first fixed to the ceiling.
Our installation team mounted the reflective foil on this from below.
Finally the heating film went under the reflective foil, and a thermostat for control.

Planning: less film, higher output

In planning we kept the client's interest in mind and aimed for efficiency and an economical investment. We designed with the highest-output, 400 W/m² heating film, so the whole ceiling did not have to be covered with film.

Control is by thermostat. Thanks to the programming option, the heating switches on a quarter of an hour before opening, so by the time the first customers arrive a pleasant warmth already greets them.

Without a suspended ceiling, concealed in the style of the shop

Ceiling heating normally goes above plasterboard. Here the owner did not want such an investment, so a creative solution was born: we covered only the heating film strips, with graphics matching the hunting shop theme.

Experiences from the site

Tamás Tóth, head of our company and president of the Hungarian National Electric Heating Association, showed in the on-site video the black film strips running the full length of the ceiling. He said that the great advantage of the heating is speed: within a few minutes of switching on, warmth can be felt below too. He recommends to everyone curious what such electric heating would be like in their own home that if they are passing by, they should look into the shop and try it. The shop uses the system as its sole heating.

In the video interview the owner of the shop said that they had earlier heated with wood and tried several heating solutions: these worked, but not really well – none of them could heat the tall shop evenly. Since the heating film was installed, according to him there has been such pleasant, even warmth in the whole shop that it makes the entire space comfortable. In his own words: "I can only say good things about it."

Try it on site

The hunting shop can be visited by anyone during opening hours, so infrared heating can be tried in use. On request the owner will switch on the heating specifically for those interested.
