A Bill-Proof Solution: 7 Reasons for Intelligent Heating Film

Heating film can be a bill-proof solution because it holds down the cost of heating at several points at once: thanks to radiant heat a lower temperature is enough, it can be controlled room by room and remotely, it warms quickly, and combined with solar panels part of the self-generated electricity can also go into heating. We collected the seven reasons below at the time of the 2022 energy price rise, and they are still the basis of heating film's economy today.

1. Economical consumption

Heating film works by infrared radiation: it does not warm the air first, but directly the person and the surfaces of the room. The warmth is thus distributed evenly in the space, and a lower air temperature is enough for the same sense of warmth. 2. Cost-effective control

The system can be connected to a smart home, and the thermostat can also be set from a mobile phone. There is no need to heat an empty flat all day: it is enough to switch the heating on with a Wi-Fi thermostat a few minutes before you set off for home, and by the time you walk in, the set temperature greets you. 3. Fast warm-up

Radiant heat can be felt almost immediately, and the surfaces of the floor, walls and ceiling also warm through in a short time.

4. Still felt after switching off

Infrared radiation warms through the walls. These keep radiating for a while even after the heating is switched off, so the room does not cool down immediately.

5. It heats only where needed

Where furniture or a larger object covers the film, a higher temperature develops. Intelligent heating film – the 4th-generation film installed today as well – reduces its power in these places, which serves both safety and economy. Independently of this, it is worth taking the positions of furniture into account already at the design stage.

6. Simpler installation

A heating film system needs no boiler, chimney, piping or plant room, so its installation is typically simpler than that of conventional water-based heating. The actual investment cost depends on the size of the heated area, the build-up and the controls, and can be stated once the specific house is known.

7. It also works with solar panels

Because heating film heats with electricity, it pairs well with a solar panel system: part of the electricity produced on the roof can also feed the heating, which can reduce the heating's electricity cost, and the heating produces no combustion products on site. We do not promise, however, that the heating bill will disappear. For new household solar systems in Hungary, since 1 January 2024 the electricity fed in and the electricity drawn are two separate accounting items, so the summer surplus does not bring down the cost of winter heating; the old annual net balance can only be kept by systems applied for by September 2023 and switched on by 1 January 2026, for a maximum of 10 years. The weaker winter production must therefore be taken into account separately when sizing the solar panels.
