Stylish and Efficient – How Can Infrared Heating Be Integrated into Interior Design?

Infrared heating fits into interior design in two ways: an infrared panel decorates with its shape, colour and even lighting, while heating film heats invisibly behind the floor, wall or ceiling.

Stylish and Efficient – How Can Infrared Heating Be Integrated into Interior Design?

Infrared heating can be fitted into interior design in two ways: an infrared panel can itself be a decorative element with its shape, colour and surface, while heating film hidden behind the floor, wall or ceiling disappears from sight entirely. Both can be controlled, so comfort is kept alongside style.

Infrared heating is a modern, radiant heating method that can serve the home not only by how it works but also by how it looks. Thanks to their thin, flat design, infrared panels can be placed discreetly on the wall or ceiling, so they do not interfere with the layout and furnishing of the room, and the designer can shape the space more freely – in homes and offices alike.

A modern house with infrared heating

Infrared panel: heater and decoration in one

Infrared panels come in different sizes, shapes and colours, so they can be matched to the style of the space:

  • A minimalist, modern space: a white, smooth-surfaced panel that blends into a clean, simple interior style.
  • A cosy, warm atmosphere: a panel with a wood finish, which creates a natural, homely feel.
  • Mood lighting: some models are also made with backlighting, so on the wall or ceiling the heater can also be a mood light.

In this way heating becomes not only a function but part of the furnishing. When placing the panel, operation must be considered as well as design: we feel the warmth best near the panel, so it is worth matching its position to how the room is used – the seating area, the desk, the dining table.

Heating film: heating you cannot see

If the aim is for the heating not to be visible at all, heating film is the better choice. It takes up no space on the floor or wall, so the interior designer can use every surface freely. Instead of radiators and heaters it goes under the floor, above the ceiling or in the wall, and the only visible element left is the thermostat. It can therefore be fitted into interior design plans without having to change the space and the layout for it.

When the article was published, in 2023, we considered 3rd-generation heating foil the flagship of infrared heating. Today we install 4th-generation heating film. We give a 15.5-year warranty on 4th-generation heating film if we carry out the installation. The place of installation – floor, wall or ceiling – is worth deciding already at the start of design, because it also affects the build-up of layers and the positions of furniture.

Control and energy use

Radiant heating warms people and objects directly, so comfort can be achieved at a lower air temperature, which can also be favourable in terms of energy use. Infrared panels and intelligent heating film can be controlled in almost every case, so the temperature can be set room by room to the needs, and this can bring further savings. How much that means on the bill depends on the house's heat loss and on use; we write about consumption on a separate page.

Summary

Infrared heating can therefore be used well in interior design: a panel can make the space unique with its shape, colour and lighting, and heating film gives warmth invisibly, without breaking up the unified design.
