The Perfect Complement to a Minimalist Home: Infrared Heating

Author: Tóth Tamás · 2 min read

A minimalist home needs heating that barely shows: a flat infrared panel on the wall or ceiling, or heating film hidden under the floor, in the wall or in the ceiling. And what solar panels mean for heating costs today.

The Perfect Complement to a Minimalist Home: Infrared Heating

In a minimalist home, the heating that fits best is the one that barely shows, or does not show at all. Infrared heating offers two forms for this: a clean-looking infrared panel mounted on the wall or ceiling, and heating film hidden under the floor covering, in the wall or in the ceiling, which does not break the unified look of the space.

More and more people are choosing the modern, minimalist architectural style. Clean lines suggest elegance and quality, but designing an entire flat or house as consistently minimalist is not easy: every corner has to be thought through for the space to feel harmonious when you walk in. Some fixtures we cannot live without are not especially beautiful – most heaters are like that, since function and efficiency come first, not appearance. A bulky radiator simply does not belong in a carefully designed minimalist home.

The perfect complement to a minimalist home

Modern heating for a modern home

Most designer heaters are electric. Unlike conventional electric panel heaters that warm the air, an infrared panel gives off heat by radiation: it warms mainly the surfaces in the room and the people in it, so the sense of warmth can stay pleasant even at a lower air temperature. Panels are made in many styles and finishes, and there are flat-surface models designed specifically for minimalist spaces.

Alongside the panel, "invisible" heating film also suits a modern home. It can be installed under the floor covering, in the wall or in the ceiling, so there is no need to break up a clean interior with a wall-mounted heater. Today we install 4th-generation heating film.

A minimalist home with considered running costs

By its principle of operation, infrared heating can be run economically if the building's insulation and the controls are in order. Many modern houses also have solar panels, which can reduce the electricity cost of heating, although the size of the saving now depends on how the electricity is accounted for. In Hungary, new household solar systems installed since 1 January 2024 are subject to gross metering: electricity fed into the grid and electricity drawn from the grid are accounted for separately. Net metering can only be kept by a system for which the application was submitted by September 2023 and which was commissioned by 1 January 2026 – and even then for a maximum of 10 years. It is therefore wise to assume that the saving depends mainly on the electricity used on site; you can read the details on our solar panel page.
